Seaview Wildlife Encounter, Seaview, Isle of Wight by Island Graphic Art - © 2009 Seaview WE

Seaview Wildlife Encounter has teamed up with established wildlife photographer Mark Harding to bring you a unique opportunity to learn more about wildlife photography by participating in one of our exclusive tuition days at the park.

Thousands of people love photography, and would like to get that little bit extra from their photos. This is your opportunity to do just that, with Mark’s expert guidance and the exciting subject matter that we have here at Seaview Wildlife Encounter.

Mark Harding has been working as a photographer for over ten years, with many published images. He specialises in marine photography, particularly that of marine megafauna, and works part of the year on his own conservation projects and small photographic group tours to Ecuador and South Africa. He is also on the board of directors of conservation organisation Selvaeco, who are involved in conserving the Ecuadorean Amazon. Mark is represented by stock agencies Splashdown Direct, The Natural History Museum Picture Library, and Archivo Criollo.

Our photo tuition days are aimed at anyone with a camera looking to create better wildlife images. We cover three main aspects of photography and use the great wildlife at Seaview Wildlife Encounter as our subject matter to apply all that we learn on the day.

Part 1:
Theory of photography.

It’s important to understand how a camera works, and what exactly you are able to influence as its user, to enable better results in your images. We spend some time in a mini workshop discussing basic photographic theory - getting to know how variations on camera settings can improve your images. It is highly recommended that you have an SLR camera, but if not, some improvements to shooting with a compact camera can be made by understanding some aspects of their use.

Part 2:
Practical.

We go around the park and make great use of the resident wildlife and take advantage of the spectacular interactivity and wide open spaces, hopefully taking some memorable images along the way. We apply what we have learned in the workshop and apply it to our shots. You will learn how varieties of subject matter can be photographed to great effect using different techniques.

Part 3.
Digital processing.

We return to the mini workshop to learn about how to optimise our images using Photoshop. The digital era has brought with it a whole new set of learning requirements and far from being frowned upon as something used only by people who take terrible images, digital processing is a crucial part of image-making today. We cover the basics in this segment and show you how to make your image leap out at you. We also cover basic digital printing theory.
